About Consultancy

An advisory firm built for the second half of strategy.

We help leadership teams make a small number of clear choices — and then stay close enough to see them through. Small senior teams, plans tested with the people who run them, and an exit date agreed on day one.

01Our story

Consultancy was founded in 2012 by two consultants who had spent a decade watching good strategies stall. The analysis was rarely wrong. What went wrong came later — in the budget round, the first difficult hire, the quarter when the old priorities quietly came back.

We set out to build a firm around that second half of strategy: small, senior teams who help leadership make clear choices and then stay close enough to see those choices through. We still work that way. The partner who scopes an engagement leads it day to day, and every long engagement has an agreed exit date.

“We would rather be useful for a year than impressive for a fortnight.”

Today we are a team of thirty-four across London and Rotterdam, working mainly with mid-sized and family-owned businesses, specialist financial institutions and public-interest organisations. We go deep in a handful of sectors where operations, regulation and people all have to move together.

  1. 2012Founded by Thomas Wren and Elena Marchetti after a decade in larger firms, with a simple brief: stay until the change holds.
  2. 2016Rotterdam office opens to work with logistics, energy and industrial clients across northern Europe.
  3. 2019Transformation Delivery becomes a practice in its own right as clients ask us to stay beyond the plan.
  4. 2024Capability-transfer becomes a standard part of every engagement over three months, with a handover date agreed at the outset.

02Principles

How we work, in five sentences.

How engagements are structured
  1. The people who sell the work do the work.

Every engagement is led day to day by the partner who scoped it. No hand-off to a team you met for the first time on day one.

  2. Small teams, close to the problem.

We would rather send three experienced people to your site than twelve to a project room. It costs less and we learn more.

  3. Write down what you decided not to do.

A strategy is as much about the options you close as the ones you open. We make both explicit, so they survive the next budget round.

  4. Plans are tested before they are presented.

We take draft designs to the managers who will run them before they reach the board. It is slower for a week and faster for a year.

  5. Leave on purpose.

We agree an exit date at the start and build the internal capability to make it real. Success is when you no longer need us.

03Leadership
